Advanced Visualizer

How to Change Google Search Console Chart Types

Change your chart visualization styles from standard lines to helpful bar or area formats for better analysis.

Standard Google Search Console restricts you to viewing performance metrics strictly through default line charts. The Advanced GSC Visualizer solves this by providing the flexibility to switch your visualization style to bar or area charts, which makes reviewing grouped data significantly clearer.

Info Prerequisite

Ensure you have already clicked the Advanced Visualization button to render the custom chart interface before proceeding.

Step 1: Access the Chart Type Settings

Locate and click the More button in the top control panel of the visualizer interface. A dropdown menu will appear containing the chart type selection buttons.

Step 2: Select Your Preferred Chart Style

Click on your preferred style button to immediately update the visual representation of your performance data.

  • Line: The default visualization showing continuous daily trends.
  • Bar: Groups data points into solid vertical columns, ideal for reviewing monthly or weekly aggregates.
  • Area: Highlights the volume beneath the trend line to emphasize the overall magnitude of the metrics.

Step 3: Enable Data Labels

When viewing aggregated data, seeing exact numbers directly on the graph improves analysis. Toggle the Data Labels switch to active to display the exact numerical value above each individual data point.

Warning Timeframe Restriction

The Data Labels toggle is only active when your chart is set to weekly or monthly timeframes. Daily views contain too many data points, which would clutter the interface if labeled.

Step 4: Activate Comparison Mode

If you are operating within a weekly or monthly timeframe, toggle the Comparison Mode switch to turn it on.

This feature splits your selected date range into two distinct periods. It aligns each week or month directly against its previous counterpart, giving you a clear visual comparison of performance shifts over time.

Changing your chart style to a bar format and utilizing data labels provides a much clearer perspective on aggregated metrics. Proceed to the dedicated comparison mode guide to further refine your data analysis workflow.
